SS-100-X

The car shown above is the actual SS-100-X that President John F. Kennedy was assasinated in. It is one of the more popular attractions at the Henry Ford Museum. Some will say, no, that can’t be the car… The car JFK was assasinated in was a convertible, and was blue, not black. Well… apparently the car actually had a bubble top that was often removed due to it being too hot, and after the assassination, president Johnson had the car painted black so it wasn’t visually associated with the assassination during the next 4 years of service (eventually being retired in 1967).

Traverse Canal

Traverse Boardwalk

We went into Traverse City one rainy afternoon to grab some lunch and do a bit of shopping. We parked along this canal, and then walked over a bridge to get to the main strip. The canal was pretty neat in itself. Every now and then you could see some massive fish of some sort swimming around, and the boardwalk was pretty inviting as well.

The Machine

More Power

The Henry Ford museum also featured a bunch of steam engines, pumps, and other industrial revolution type items. It all looked very industrial and probably 100% cleaner than it would have been in actual operation, but it was pretty amazing nonetheless… especially now that there’s probably an ap on your smartphone that does the same thing as this machine…

Docta Jones

Byrd Tri-Motor

This scene in the Henry Ford Museum reminded me of Indiana Jones… and for good reason. This particular Ford Trimotor was actually used in filming one of the Indiana Jones movies. Can’t you just see short round hanging out of the car screaming “Got to go Docta Jones!” heh heh…

The Power of Dreams

The Power of Dreams

Honda displayed this racecar last year as well. In fact, a lot of the Honda booth seemed a bit recycled this year… hopefully that means they are gearing up for a big year to come… Anyway, last years shots were a little too similar to each other, so I tried to actively set up differently for each one this time around.

She Thinks my Tractors Sexy

If Xzibit lived in the early 1900’s, and television was invented at that time, he so would have pimped this ride.

Glen Lake Overlook

Glen Lake Overlook

This spot was one of the first points of interest on the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive in Empire, Michigan. I was pretty fortunate to have the sun shining, illuminating the nice light blue in the lake and the golden branches in the trees.

Ghosts of Detroit

Audi TT RS

It might have been because we went on the last day of the show this year, but it seemed like the 2013 NAIAS auto show in Detroit had many more visitors than last year. The place was packed! This normally makes it a little hard to grab a clean shot, so I use neutral density filters to slow the shutter. In this case it produced a cool ghosting effect.

Inside the Dymaxion

Inside the DymaxionRecently there’s been this huge upswing in urban “pod” housing, but a lot of people were unaware that these pods were being designed quite a while ago. In 1929, a man by the name of Buckminster Fuller came up with the idea for his Dymaxion house; a small circular aluminum clad, dome-like structure. The house was meant to be manufactured as a kit that could be shipped and constructed in any climate. The shot above is looking into the living/dining room.

Pump Works

Pump Works

This section of the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan housed many different pumps; most of which were sunk into the ground due to their sheer size.I liked the backdrop and all the texture in the wood, brick, and iron.
