The past few days have been pretty hectic with yard work, kids party, etc, etc… and I’ve just not been as strict about getting a new shot out every day, so I apologize. To make up for it, I’ve added a bunch of new pics to the Henry Ford & Chicago Galleries; like this one of the Bull in front of the Chicago Cultural Center. Enjoy!

The White River originates at the toe of Emmons Glacier in the Mount Rainier Park. You can see the river here coming out of the ice cave at the toe of (the very soiled looking) glacier. The river flows on through the White River Campground, which is known for its many trails and as an access starting point to summit the mountain. This shot was taken from a trail at the Sunrise visitor center, which overlooks the entire region from this side of the mountain.

The car shown above is the actual SS-100-X that President John F. Kennedy was assasinated in. It is one of the more popular attractions at the Henry Ford Museum. Some will say, no, that can’t be the car… The car JFK was assasinated in was a convertible, and was blue, not black. Well… apparently the car actually had a bubble top that was often removed due to it being too hot, and after the assassination, president Johnson had the car painted black so it wasn’t visually associated with the assassination during the next 4 years of service (eventually being retired in 1967).

I found this place in Port Townsend, Washington, as we walked the shopping district by the sound. There’s all sort of quaint shops and cafes and such. I can’t remember if this place was a store or a business of some sort, but I loved the textures of the brick against the wooden door and teal paint. This is all pretty much par for the course for the people who live here, but contrasted with Dayton, Ohio (which is more like 1970-ish utilitarian) I found it pretty interesting.

We went into Traverse City one rainy afternoon to grab some lunch and do a bit of shopping. We parked along this canal, and then walked over a bridge to get to the main strip. The canal was pretty neat in itself. Every now and then you could see some massive fish of some sort swimming around, and the boardwalk was pretty inviting as well.

The Henry Ford museum also featured a bunch of steam engines, pumps, and other industrial revolution type items. It all looked very industrial and probably 100% cleaner than it would have been in actual operation, but it was pretty amazing nonetheless… especially now that there’s probably an ap on your smartphone that does the same thing as this machine…

I grabbed this shot of the last fading rays of sunset from one of the bridges around Big Pine Key, if I remember correctly. Sunsets in the Keys always seem the perfect end to a fun-filled & sun-baked day. If the mosquitos aren’t out, I love just to grab a beer, stand on the dock, and watch the whole show.

This scene in the Henry Ford Museum reminded me of Indiana Jones… and for good reason. This particular Ford Trimotor was actually used in filming one of the Indiana Jones movies. Can’t you just see short round hanging out of the car screaming “Got to go Docta Jones!” heh heh…

I saw this barn from the main road going into Mount Rainier through the town of Ashford, Washington. There’s nothing really special about this shot, but I just liked the distressed look of the barn against the mountain.

This shot was a bit unexpected. I had set up along the driftwood piles at La Push beach, firing into the sun / horizon waiting for a good sunset picture, and then this fishing boat comes puttering in from the left. I thought it was a pretty nice little addition to the shot.
