Old Mission Lighthouse

Posted: October 9, 2012 in HDR, Michigan, Nikon D90

This is the Old Mission Lighthouse on Mission Point Penninsula just north of Traverse City, Michigan. The lighthouse was built in 1870, but only recently (2008) was it opened for visitors. I was fortunate to visit in October when the fall color was at near peak, and the white lighthouse set against the fall color and blue skies was just a fantastic photo opportunity.

In fact the lighthouse is just the cherry on top of an amazing penninsula dotted from top to bottom with wineries, apple orchards, and little farms. The entire place is picturesque, and if you ever find yourself near Traverse City, you owe it to yourself to take the drive to this point.
