Royal Poinciana Tree

Posted: August 15, 2012 in Florida, HDR, Nikon D90

This beautiful tree is called a Royal Poinciana Tree. These variety of trees grow in south Florida, Texas, and many other tropical locations due to their ability to resist drought-like conditions and salty environments. Originally, however, these trees were only endemic to the Western areas of Madagascar! I captured this shot in Key West, Florida just off the main shopping district & Duval Street. I was fortunate to be there within the flowering season months.
