A Pirate’s Life For Me

Posted: May 11, 2012 in St. John, USVI

Maho Bay, St. John, US Virgin Islands provided the backdrop for this shot. This one was actually taken with a Samsung 5 mega-pixel point and shoot camera I bought from Wal-Mart on black Friday for $60 or something. There is no Photoshop going on here; (or any other treatments for that matter) just straight out of the camera. The water really is that amazingly aqua / clear as it appears. It is pretty much just as spectacular as it seems in the picture.

We’ve had the opportunity to go twice in our lives, and both times were awesome. St. John is super laid back and you’re biggest concern is which of the thirty-some beaches you want to spend the day at, and when you want to leave to go to Skinny Legs for an out-of-this-world burger and cold Presidente.

I took this shot one day when we were just swimming in Maho Bay. We found this coconut husk and leaves at the edge of the beach and fashioned a rudimentary schooner. The funny thing is that it actually worked! It probably came in about 5 or 6 times with the tide, but finally it sailed on out of the harbor, and we waved bon voyage as it disappeared into the setting sun.
